Case study · PLOX · brand, interface and website The name came first
PLOX is a new consumer technology company. We named it, built the brand identity, designed every screen of the phone interface and built the website. What the company makes is theirs to announce, so this page is about the design and stops there.
Naming is the first design decision
The company arrived with a working name it had outgrown and a shortlist that did not survive a second reading. We ran the naming properly: a long list, a hard cut against how each one sounds out loud, how it looks set in capitals, and whether a domain and a social handle were reachable.
PLOX won. Short, flat, easy to say in any accent, and it holds its shape as a wordmark. The company is Plox Interactive Ltd, the master brand is PLOX, the software is ploxOS, and the line under it is Play anywhere.
Playful without being childish
The brief was adults and families, not gamers. That ruled out the whole visual language of gaming: no angular logos, no neon on black, no aggression. The reference points were closer to the consumer electronics brands that treat simplicity as the point.
What came out is a mark that works at the size of an app icon and the size of a wall, a palette that behaves on both a bright phone screen and a printed box, and a set of rules written so the next person who designs something for the company gets it right without asking.
Dark, quiet, and out of the way
The phone is where people meet the company’s software, so the interface had to carry the brand while asking for almost no attention. Dark ground, generous spacing, one accent at a time, and type sized for a phone held at arm’s length rather than a designer’s monitor.
Every screen was designed before it was built, so the company approved an interface rather than imagining one, and the names used in the design are the names the software uses in its own code. Change a name in one place and every screen follows.
The order it was done in

The work, in the open
Why this page stops where it does
PLOX is a new company with a product it has not launched. We designed the name, the identity, the phone interface and the website, and that is what this page is about. What the company makes, when it ships and how it works are the company’s to say, not ours, so you will not find them here.
A brand built to be used by other people
The point of a brand system is that it survives contact with everyone who comes after it: the developer, the printer, the person making a video at eleven at night.
If you are naming something or putting an interface in front of people for the first time, that is the work on this page.
