Web design · High Wycombe · WordPress, Shopify, Framer Websites High Wycombe businesses can run

Most small business websites do not fail on launch day, they fail eighteen months later when nobody can change anything on them. Yours will be built so your team can. You own the domain, the hosting and the files, training is part of the job, and ongoing support is optional rather than compulsory.

Most websites do not fail at launch, they fail in month eighteen

The build goes fine. Everyone is pleased. Then a year and a half later you want to change a price, add a service and swap a photograph, and it turns out nobody in the business can do any of it.

The developer has moved on, or answers in four days, or quotes £400 for twenty minutes of work. The plugins are out of date and something breaks when they are updated. The hosting renews to an address nobody reads. The website design still looks fine and the site has quietly stopped being an asset and started being a liability nobody wants to open.

That is the outcome worth designing against, and almost nobody selling web design in High Wycombe will talk to you about it before you sign. Every web design company on that first page will show you launch day. Very few will tell you what month eighteen looks like.

You own it, and you can run it

The website is yours. Your domain, your hosting account, your platform login, your files. Not licensed to you, not sitting inside a platform we control, not held hostage by an agency you have fallen out with.

That sounds obvious and it is not the industry norm. Plenty of agencies build on a proprietary system, which is excellent while the relationship works and expensive the moment it does not. Ask any web design company two questions before you commit: what happens to the website if we stop working together, and who holds the domain.

Training and handover are part of every website build, whichever platform your company ends up on. Not a PDF, a session with your team on the jobs you will actually do: edit a service description, change a price, add a project, swap an image, publish a new page. We agree those tasks during the design process, while the development choices can still be made to support them.

Ongoing support and maintenance are available and optional. If you want us to maintain the site, hosting, updates, backups and the small changes, we will, and that maintenance is scoped and priced separately so you can see exactly what it covers. If you would rather manage it in house, the site is built so that you can.

Web design services for High Wycombe businesses

Our web design services cover three platforms, chosen for the job rather than for our convenience. Website design and development happen in the same team, so nothing gets designed that cannot be built.

WordPress websites suit content led sites with services, articles and case studies to manage, and most High Wycombe businesses we build for end up here. It is the most flexible and the one that needs the most discipline: a long plugin list is how a WordPress site becomes unmaintainable.

Shopify for e commerce, where the project turns on products, orders and the buying journey. We are a Shopify Partner, and an online shop is a different kind of website design job from a service site: more moving parts, more to maintain, more to get right before launch.

Framer for design led sites where visual editing matters after handover. We are a Framer Expert. It suits a marketing team that wants to change a page without booking developer time, and it keeps the website design tools in the hands of the people using them daily.

Whichever platform, the build covers discovery, structure and wireframes, the visual design, development, speed and accessibility as requirements rather than extras, tracking and CRM connected before launch, then training and handover. A photography and video shoot day goes into most builds, because a site full of stock images is a site that looks like everybody else’s.

Our web design process, start to finish

Six stages in our design process, and the order matters more than any of them individually. Each one has an owner and a deliverable, so you always know where the project is.

Discovery. What the business sells, which services need more enquiries, what customers ask before they buy, and what has to connect to the website. We also want to know who will manage the site afterwards, because that shapes decisions later.

Structure and wireframes. The pages, the navigation and the journey, set out before anybody picks a colour. Reviewing a wireframe is faster and more honest than reviewing a finished design, because there is nothing pretty to be distracted by.

Design. The initial concept, then the full page designs, built around your brand and around real content rather than placeholder text. Visual impact matters, and it matters less than whether a visitor can find the thing they came for.

Content and photography. Website content is where most projects stall. We agree who writes what at the start, and a shoot day covers the images so the site does not launch with stock photographs of a handshake.

Development. Building the approved designs into a working, fast, secure and reliable website, with tracking and CRM connected before launch rather than after somebody notices the enquiries are not being recorded.

Launch and handover. Testing every form and buying step, then training your team. After that it is continuous improvement rather than a finished object: a website that never changes is a website slowly going out of date.

Communication through all six is a named person rather than a shared inbox. You will know who to ring.

Websites we have built

Our web design clients include Speeds Campers in Loudwater, Wheels VT in Beaconsfield, Blue Light Services, Travel Ink Media, Call Mr Fix It, Giant Jiu Jitsu, GoMo Garden Pods, Viking Shop Suple, Turbo Snail and Boyana Brows. Small businesses, mostly, and a couple that were start ups when we met them.

Travel Ink Media reached 98 per cent page speed after its redesign. Technical performance is not a vanity metric on a phone in a car park with two bars of signal, which is where a good proportion of your visitors are.

Speeds Campers started with a website redesign in January 2024 and are still clients, having referred three other businesses who became clients too. Repeat business and referrals tell you more about a web design agency than the portfolio does, because a portfolio only shows you launch day.

What makes a website work for a High Wycombe business

Four things, and they are not the four most agencies lead with.

It has to work on mobile devices first. Most local searching happens on a phone, often on a poor connection. A design that looks superb on a designer’s monitor and takes nine seconds on 4G is not a professional website, it is a portfolio piece.

Google has to be able to read it. Structure, speed, headings and internal links all decide whether search engines can make sense of the site. That is groundwork rather than an SEO campaign, and skipping it means paying somebody later to undo the build.

It has to say what you do in the first screen. Local customers arriving from Google give a page a couple of seconds to prove it is relevant. Being clever costs you more visitors than being plain ever will.

It has to make enquiring easy. A phone number that is tappable, a form that does not lose what somebody typed when they miss a field, and a clear next step on every page. More traffic to a site that does none of that is just a more expensive way to lose people.

Get those right and the site supports everything else: your advertising, your search visibility and your sales conversations. Get them wrong and no amount of design saves it.

Web design High Wycombe businesses come back to

The measure of a website design agency is not the launch, it is whether the client is still there two years later and whether the website still earns its place.

Most of our web design High Wycombe work comes from businesses who tried a cheap build first and found they had bought a picture of a website rather than a working one. It looked professional. It attracted very little. Nobody could change it.

So we design for the long term growth of the business rather than for the portfolio. That means a website you can add to, real results you can measure, and content that supports whatever the company sells next year as well as this one. New business does not arrive because a site is beautiful. It arrives because the site explains the offer clearly to the right audience and makes contacting you effortless.

Search engine optimisation, Google Ads and social all send people to the website. Web design decides what happens when they get there. Get the order wrong and you spend money attracting traffic to a page that cannot convert it, which is the single most common waste in online marketing.

If your market is Buckinghamshire, the site also has to make your service area obvious. A visitor from Marlow or Princes Risborough should not have to guess whether you cover them.

What it costs to have a website professionally designed

There are no prices on this page, and here is the honest reason: the same phrase covers a five page brochure site and an online shop with stock integration, and quoting a range would only mislead you.

What decides the number is the page count, whether the design is built from scratch or from a template, who writes the words, whether photography is included, what has to connect to what, and how much existing content is moving across. Two quotes that look wildly different are usually describing two different jobs.

So compare on scope, not on price. Ask what is included, what you supply, what happens to your current pages, what training covers, and which costs continue after launch. A cheap build that excludes content, photography and migration is not cheap, it is unfinished.

For a first website, work out which tasks a customer must be able to complete and build for those. The rest can wait. A start up does not need everything on day one and rarely benefits from trying.

Every figure is published: £2,499 is where a website starts, and the full rate card is on our pricing page, where you can tick what you need and see the total before you speak to anybody.

Logo and brand design alongside the build

A lot of website design projects arrive with a logo problem attached. The logo was drawn in 2011, exists only as a low resolution image, and nobody has the original file.

We handle logo design and brand work in house, so a rebuild is a sensible moment to sort it out. That usually means a logo that works small as well as large, a defined colour palette with enough contrast for buttons and body text, typography that holds up on a phone, and the files handed over in the formats a printer will actually accept.

You do not have to do it. If your brand is recognised and working, keep it and we will design around it. The test is whether your website, your last three social posts, a quote document and your van look like they came from the same company. If a stranger could not tell, the logo is not the problem, the lack of a system around it is.

What we build with, and why that matters to you

WordPress, Shopify and Framer cover almost every brief that arrives. The choice follows what the site has to do rather than what we prefer to build, and we will say when the honest answer is keeping the platform you already have and fixing what sits on top of it.

The development tools behind a site decide who can change it later. A page builder locked to one agency is a maintenance bill waiting to happen. We hand over an editor your own team can use, so updating a price or adding a service does not need a support ticket.

Speed and structure are part of the build, not an upgrade. An efficient site loads fast on a phone on a weak signal, and that single thing does more to attract and hold visitors than any amount of animation.

The brief starts from your business goals, not a page count. More enquiries, better quality enquiries, fewer time wasting calls, direct online sales: those are four different websites. Agreeing which one you want gives the build a focus, and lets us deliver something measurable rather than something merely finished.

We support businesses after launch as well, because a website is a live thing. Content creation, new pages, seasonal changes and the ideas that turn up halfway through the year. Your digital presence is the sum of all of it, and measurable results come from the version of the site that exists in month eighteen, not the one photographed on launch day.

The website has to earn its keep

A website is where somebody decides whether to contact you, so the website design has to make that decision easy. Clear service explanations, evidence they can check, and an enquiry route that works on a phone at nine in the evening.

Google matters here too, and it is a separate discipline from the build. Search engines send most of the traffic to most small business websites, and creating a site they can read properly costs nothing extra at build time and a fortune to retrofit. Search engine optimisation, keyword research and on page optimisation are covered properly on our SEO for High Wycombe page rather than bolted onto a build page as an afterthought. What a good website design does is give that work something worth ranking: real pages, real content, real speed.

If you are replacing an existing site, tell us before the design starts. Pages that already bring you enquiries need protecting, and a redesign that quietly deletes them is a very expensive way to get a nicer looking homepage.

For the wider picture, our marketing services for High Wycombe cover the content and campaigns that send people to the site once it is live.

Start with what is not working

Bring the website you have, or the offer your first website needs to explain. The free audit covers whether a rebuild is the answer, or whether two better pages and a set of decent photographs would do more for less.

No obligation, and if the answer is that your current website is fine, you will get that instead of a proposal.

Questions

Questions

How much does a web designer cost in the UK?
Anything from a few hundred pounds for a template site to five figures for a shop with integrations, which is why a single number is useless. Judge on scope. Ask what pages are included, who writes the content, whether photography is in, what migrates from the old site, and what carries on being charged after launch.
How much does it cost to pay someone to build you a website?
Less than most people fear, and more than the cheapest quote suggests once the missing pieces appear. The costs that get left out of low quotes are the words, the images, moving existing content and the training. Get all four named in writing and the comparison becomes simple.
Will we own the website?
Yes. Your domain, your hosting, your platform account, your files. Training and handover are part of the build so your team can run it. We do not build on a system that only we can maintain, because that turns a working relationship into a dependency and neither side should want that.
Can we edit the website ourselves after launch?
That is the intention, and we design for it. During the project we agree which jobs you want to do yourself, usually editing text, changing prices, swapping images and adding projects, and the build is set up so those are simple. Anything more involved you can hand back to us, but you should never be stuck waiting on a developer to change a phone number.
How long does a website take to build?
It depends on the page count, the integrations, and how quickly feedback and content come back, which is usually the real bottleneck rather than the development. Photography needs space in the plan too. We agree the schedule against the scope rather than promise a date before anyone knows the size of the job.
Do you provide hosting, maintenance and support?
Yes, and it is optional rather than compulsory. Hosting, updates, backups and small changes can be covered by a monthly arrangement with a clear scope, or you can host and maintain it yourself. What we will not do is make the ongoing fee the only way to keep your own website working.
Should we redesign or improve what we have?
Improve, more often than agencies admit. If the site explains the offer, works on a phone and makes the next step obvious, better content and photographs usually beat a rebuild. A redesign earns its place when the structure cannot do what customers need, or when the platform is holding you back.
Do you build online shops?
Yes, mostly on Shopify, where we are a partner. Bring your product information, photography and delivery rules into the planning rather than at the end, because those three decide most of the build. Viking Shop Suple and Turbo Snail are e commerce projects you can look at.
